Summary

THESE ARE NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITIONS.

These National Guard positions are WG-8852-11 AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D0484000 and are part of the MO Army Aviation Support Facility Ft Leonard Wood.

APPOINTMENT FACTORS: These are Indefinite Excepted Service positions. These are bargaining positions. SEE NOTES UNDER CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT BELOW.

Clarification from the agency

WHO MAY APPLY: All qualified permanent and indefinite Title 32 National Guard employees who are currently working at the Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF) (FLW) in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

Duties

  • Performs Crew Chief duties with full maintenance responsibility for assigned aircraft.
  • Performs the full range of preventive maintenance, repair and ground testing of aircraft systems, assemblies and surfaces.
  • Using a variety of methods including test equipment, visual checks and instruments, diagnoses and identifies problem areas and determines the extent of repairs required.
  • Plans and conducts a flight training program for drill status crew chiefs.
  • Performs duties as a Flight Maintenance/Flight Engineer as required to carry out the unit mission, and as such carries out pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Pre-placement or baseline physical are required for newly hired or appointed Wage Grade personnel who may be potentially exposed to health hazards in the work environment.
  • Failure to complete management prescribed courses for full-time support personnel within the first year of employment or assignment, may be cause for reassignment or termination.


Qualifications

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an Excepted Service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. Selected candidate will be required to be in a compatible military assignment prior to effective date of placement. Selected candidate must be MOS qualified within 12 months from date of appointment.

Maximum Military Grade - SFC (E-7)

Enlisted - Branch 15, 91, 92, or 94

Supervisor must verify that selected individual occupies a compatible military position. Technicians will not be militarily senior to their full-time supervisor or wage leader (grade inversion).

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must possess experience, education or training which has provided you with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must have the ability to use hand tools and test equipment.

WG-11 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess 18 months of specialized experience which has provided you the skills to perform all the duties required of an aircraft crew chief in troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, servicing, inspecting and modifying aircraft, aircraft installed equipment and related ground equipment. Experience and/or appropriate training which would demonstrate a thorough knowledge of aircraft systems and components in electrical, fuel, hydraulic, environmental and mechanical principles in sufficient detail to perform the duties and responsibilities as applied to the unit's aircraft and supportive systems. Experience and/or appropriate training which would demonstrate a thorough knowledge of aircraft maintenance management systems and data reporting which is required to insure proper work sequence planning and review. Experience and/or appropriate training which would demonstrate a thorough understanding of technical orders, maintenance regulations and management operating procedures.
