What's the job?

The Asphalt Processing Supervisor is responsible for all operations and activities in the Stillyard and provides direct supervision to the Stillyard Operators and Assistant Still Operators.

The Asphalt Processing Supervisor is held accountable to ensure production activities are carried out in compliance with all environmental, health, and safety requirements, policies, and procedures in a manner consistent with Saint-Gobain's Trust, Empowerment & Collaboration initiatives.

Key Requirements :
  • Directly supervises the hourly employees on the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the asphalt processing equipment.
  • Exercises good judgment in the utilization of manpower, work in progress and operational adjustments.
  • Communicates expectations, documents, measure and assess employee performance, provide coaching and development opportunities, and administer disciplinary action if needed.
  • May be required to assist in the evaluation and selection process of hiring hourly employees.
  • Directly monitors the asphalt blowing processes to ensure compliance to established company standards.
  • Oversees the training of production employees to ensure they receive adequate training prior to operating any of the manufacturing equipment and that they follow the standard operating procedures and work instructions.
  • Leads the shift safety meetings and training sessions that have been developed by the training coordinator.
  • Perform root-cause analysis as well as implements sustainable countermeasures on losses related to production.
  • Report all EH&S incidents - Injuries, Near Misses, First Aid, Environmental and Property/Equipment Damage etc.
  • Conduct EHS and SMAT Audits to support the plants EHS goals.
  • Ensure adherence to Waste Management and Recycling responsibilities.
  • Participate in Incident & Near Miss Investigations to determine root cause and corrective actions.
  • Participate in the development, understanding and review of all position job safety assessments and standard operating procedures.
  • Maintains workplace organization to ensure good housekeeping (5S) by holding employees responsible for their assigned work areas.
  • Reviews and approves employee timekeeping (Kronos) and ensures employees are paid the correct wages in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
  • May be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.

What do you bring?
  • 4-year degree preferred (equivalent experience may be considered)
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience (Asphalt Converting Operations)
  • Complete understanding of asphalt converting operations.
  • Knowledge of API standards.
  • Proficient in use of MS Office (familiarity with Kronos and SAP a plus)
  • General understanding of ISO methodology (ISO 9001)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, TPM, 5S & Six Sigma a plus
