Minimum Qualifications

Candidates should hold a PhD in Animal Science, Neuroscience, or related field with emphasis in biomedical swine research related to neurological disease or injury, neurodevelopment, neuroimaging, cognition and behavior, and other closely related biomedical areas of interest.

Position Summary

Assistant Professor - Regenerative Bioscience Swine Research and Teaching. This is a nine-month, tenure track appointment (70% Research, 30% Teaching) position in the Department of ADS (ads.caes.uga.edu) in the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences at the UGA with the ability to generate an additional 3 months of summer salary from extramural grant funds.

The individual is expected to develop and provide leadership for a relevant nationally/ internationally recognized biomedical swine research and teaching program, with an emphasis on neurological disease or injury, neurodevelopment, neuroimaging, cognition and behavior, and other closely related biomedical areas of emphasis. The specific research program will be determined based on the successful candidate's area(s) of expertise, but emphasis will be placed on the ability to develop an externally funded, research program and an ability to interact with faculty in the department. This faculty member will be expected to teach undergraduate regenerative bioscience courses within the department.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification

The candidate should have a track record of success in the biomedical swine space proven by publications, abstracts, and/or proceedings.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Candidates should have a broad understanding of the current neural injury and disease field, interest in collaborative research in the areas of microbiome, physiology, small molecule and biologic therapeutic development, cell and gene therapies, and imaging is preferred. Candidates should have demonstrated skills and accomplishments in verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships, and science communication and must be supportive of the land-grant mission.

The successful candidate will have to demonstrate that they can establish a robust research program and develop a vibrant teaching program. The ability to publish in high caliber scientific journals and to secure extramural funding to support creative work in line with their programmatic areas is expected.

The successful candidate is likely to have demonstrated scholarly community engagement through a track record of organization leadership positions and society/organization presentations.

Knowledge of statistical software and methodology and appropriate experimental design are also expected.
