We are seeking an Automation Engineering Intern based in Elgin, IL (Northwest of Chicago) to support the identification of automation opportunities in our production facility and subsequent implementation to improve current manufacturing process. As HARTING continues on its journey towards automation and Industry 4.0, we anticipate significant opportunity to enhance our competencies in industrial-grade electrical connectors, particularly in the areas of steel and thermoplastic hoods and housings and custom cable assemblies.

HARTING's Intern Development Program (Summer 2024) consists of full-time, paid, and on-site internships. Our internships are an opportunity to work on hands-on projects with your team, to work cross-functionally with other departments, and gain exposure to the technical aspects of our company. Please note: we do not provide housing in Illinois.

You will have the opportunity to be exposed to the following:

• Actively participate in gaining understanding of current processes in the manufacturing facility and warehouse.
• Gain familiarity with current and potential automation projects.
• Use your fresh engineer eyes and creativity to propose ideas for improvements with automation.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, industrial engineering, quality, warehouse, and production operators to support assignments.
• Formulate metrics for improvement and compile data to continually review progress.
• Create one-pagers to communicate about implemented automation initiatives (emphasizing the benefits and promoting a continuous improvement culture).

Skills and experience to thrive in this role:

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering
• Familiarity with PLC programming, servo motors, controllers,
• Familiarity with industrial robots (Fanuc, Kuka, or similar) a plus
• A process improvement / continuous improvement mindset
