Role Summary:

This role is located in Auburn Hills, MI and is a part of the Engineering and Environmental Office (EEO), a department within Volkswagen Group of America which is focused on Emission Certification, Fleet Compliance Reporting, In-Use Verification, Defect Reporting, OBD and Regulatory Affairs.

The role is responsible for providing technical project support for the following areas: Certification, Road Load, OBD PVE, IUVP, IUCP, PEMS and emission testing. In addition to providing technical project support, the role also directly provides mechanical and logistical support for all EEO related activities. The role supports ad hoc tasks for the EEO Certification team as well as all special projects as they occur. This role actively promotes the company's vision of integrity by displaying a positive attitude and behavior within the working environment.

Role Responsibilities:

Technical Project Support - (100%)
  • Supports EEO engineers for all In-Use, Certification, Road Load, OBD, and Special Project related activities, including certification vehicle updates, vehicle fleet maintenance/repairs, customer vehicle check-in/inspections and any part replacements as needed.
  • Tests vehicles in order to diagnose problems and confirm repairs and/or to determine drivability issues as needed.
  • Communicates diagnostic results and proposes solutions to technical problems, including complete documentation and reporting of all findings.
  • Efficiently manages fluctuating workload to address tasks based on project need.
  • Supports EEO engineers with technical, mechanical and logistical needs, as necessary.
  • Orders parts as needed or requested.
  • Maintains technical proficiency through Volkswagen/Audi service or factory training.
  • Maintains appearance of function of workshop area according to corporate guidelines.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Years of Experience:
  • 7+ years of automotive experience

Education - Required:

• Degree or certificate in Automotive Technology or equivalent

• Volkswagen Audi Technical Training

• Extensive Volkswagen and/or Audi product knowledge

• Experience with VW/Audi diagnostic tools & equipment programs

Education - Desired:
  • ASE Master Certification
  • Master Technician Certification or equivalent experience

Skills:
  • Ability to work well independently and with minimal supervision
  • Communication skills - interpersonal and written
  • Computer savvy - skilled in the use of software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrates flexibility to work under pressure and multi-task
  • Problem solving and results driven
  • Excellent teamwork ability
  • Highly motivated self-starter with high bias for action
  • Experience with and/or working understanding of international cooperation and cultural differences

Specialized Skills - Required:
  • Exposure to BEV, hybrid, diesel and conventional gasoline emission test vehicles
  • Experience using Volkswagen corporate diagnostics products
  • Volkswagen and/or Audi diagnostic experience
  • Knowledge of analysis equipment (Volkswagen diagnostic tools)
  • Highly organized and dependable
  • Certified for electric vehicle repairs

Specialized Skills - Desired:
  • Master level Volkswagen or Audi training certification
  • Knowledge of emission testing processes
  • Formal Customer Service Training
  • Extensive Volkswagen and/or Audi diagnostic experience including VAS testers
  • ASE Master / Volkswagen or Audi certification
  • Metal and Electrical fabrication and modification skills - Ability to weld, machine, drill, bend, and form metals and plastics

Work Flexibility:
  • Up to 75% travel to attend training or to support EEO testing needs.
  • Occasional extended hours required to meet program deadlines.
  • Must be available to contact colleagues at other locations in differing time zones.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with good DMV record.
