Buyer - Accessories & Handbags

The Buyer - Accessories & Handbags plans, purchases, communicates and controls merchandising, pricing and marketing strategies for assigned lines of business as required; while maximizing sales & profits and increase market share for JCPenney Stores and JCP.com

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the achievement of sales and profit plans for their collective categories
  • Develops and recommends assortment plans by channel
  • Develops and makes recommendations based on category history and market share analysis
  • Conducts brand and market share competitive analyses, develops insights and recommends tests
  • Reviews and determines fixture choice counts and earned choice counts with planning and visual teams
  • Responsible for flagship quantification, approves digital inventory audit
  • Reviews fabric needs for private brands with sourcing and signs off on production
  • Recommends assortment plan roll-ups for key items, brands, big ideas/trends, attributes, wedge, choice counts and fixtures
  • Creates botto-ms-up plan by channel and category and reconciles with financial targets
  • Validates, optimizes and manages a balanced fashion pyramid for their business
  • Ensures marketing is accurate in ad tracker and store counts are available to support, partners with marketing on style-outs
  • Leads and directs in-season reaction to business
  • Provides strong, steady leadership and communication to teams
  • Develops, coaches and mentors team
Core Competencies & Accomplishments:
  • College degree or equivalent business experience
  • 4-6+ years merchandising experience; preferably with a large organization in a similar role
  • Thorough knowledge of buying and operations gained through progressive buying experience
  • Assortment optimization and Business Planning
  • Supplier and Price Management
  • Strong Decision Making ability and Negotiation Skills
  • Demonstrates Courage/Conviction
  • Adaptability/Perseverance
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook required
