For more than 118 years, Backus Hospital has been the primary source of healthcare services for much of Eastern Connecticut. We are home to the only trauma center in New London and Windham counties, and are the only area hospital with LIFE STAR helicopter services. We deliver and coordinate a continuum of high-quality healthcare with the goal of improving the health of our communities.
Job Summary: Builds, repairs and maintains various facility structures such as furniture, equipment, partitions and other components of the hospital buildings, using hand and power tools according to accepted trade practices and written and oral instructions.

Qualifications:

• Completion of apprenticeship program or equivalent experience required
• 1 year of carpentry experience; Healthcare or commercial carpentry experience preferred
• Valid drivers license with clean record
• Effective communication skills (written, verbal, listening)

Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements
Ability to work with wood, metal, concrete, plastics & composite materials
Knowledge of building materials and their uses
Ability to maintain work job site safety and follow established safety rules and regulations as well as maintain a safe and clean environment
Ability to operate various woodworking equipment, machinery and hand tools
