Minimum Qualifications
Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus two years of experience as a journeyman carpenter.
  • Experience may substitute for education up to four (4) years.



Licenses or Certifications:
  • Texas Class C Operator's License or ability to obtain one within 90 calendar days of hire.

The purpose of the Carpenter position is to perform building construction, inspections, repairs and maintenance to PARD Facilities, including Historical, Administration, Museums, Recreation and Community Centers.

Duties may include but are not limited to:
  • CARPENTRY WORK : Perform skilled carpentry work to construct or repair walls, fabricate cabinets, repair or replace doors, windows, siding, and trim.
  • HARDWARE : Maintenance and repair of door hardware, including door closers, locksets, deadbolts, panic bars, door stops, hinges, thresholds, kick plates, and weather stripping.
  • OPERATE POWER TOOLS : Drills, circular saws, miter saws, radial arm saws, table saws, sanders, routers, pneumatic nail guns, grinders, etc.
  • USE INDUSTRY TOOLS : Measure and layout using measuring tape, level, squares, string line, laser level, and transit.
  • INSPECT : Buildings, structures, and RECORD data on appropriate I-Pads, Desktop computers, forms, logbooks, etc.

  • Driving Requirement:This position requires current possession of a Texas Class C Driver's License or to have the ability to obtain within 90 days of employment. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin's Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.
  • Physical Requirements: Tasks may involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying, or using a force equal to lifting up to thirty-five (35) pounds. Work environment includes inside, and outside environmental conditions, extreme temperatures, and hazards associated with equipment operation including fumes, oils, gases, and mists. Must be physically and mentally able to communicate, respond, and work with participant's needs and safety issues.

Other:
  • Travel: If you are selected for this position and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in Building Maintenance and/or Construction of Commercial Buildings.
  • Experience in Commercial Door Hardware Installation, Maintenance, and Repair.
  • Experience in Shop Fabrication and Installation of Cabinets, Shelving, and Counter Tops.
  • Experience in Wood and Metal Stud Structural Framing.
  • Experience in Installation / Replacement of Commercial Wood and Metal Doors & Casings.



Preferred Certifications:
  • OSHA Construction Safety and Health 29 CFR 1910 Certification.
  • Aerial Lifts 29 CFR 1926.453 Certification.
  • Fork Lift 29 CFR 1910.178 Certification.

Other:
  • Ability to travel to more than one work location
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

  • Measures/mixes ingredients.
