Who We Are

We are All Creatures Care Cottage and have been a part of the Costa Mesa community for 50 years servicing all types of pets. Our mission is to be a community of veterinary teams providing personalized care with exceptional hospitality. What makes us unique and unlike most hospitals is we treat an array of patients from dogs and cats to reptiles and birds. Skills and Responsibilities
  1. Perform initial evaluation of the pet's condition and advise veterinarian regarding nature of visit, preventative care due and client concerns.
  2. Restrain animals in a safe, efficient and compassionate manner during examinations and procedures.
  3. Obtain and prepare laboratory samples as requested by the veterinarian, i.e. urine, fecal and ear cytology. Record results in the patient's medical record and communicate results to the veterinarian in a timely fashion.
  4. Prepare and perform radiographs or ultrasounds following proper safety procedures.
  5. Prepare and set up for surgical procedures while utilizing knowledge of proper sterile field requirements. Monitoring general anesthesia, sedation, and post procedure recovery.
  6. Prepare and perform dental prophylaxis procedures including dental radiographs, scaling/polishing, dental charting, and extractions (RVT only).
  7. Accurately prepare and dispense medications as directed by the veterinarian, ensuring that medications are added to the pet's record and appropriately charged to the client.
  8. Follow all DEA guidelines, including but not limited to documentation of all controlled drugs used or dispensed at any time.
  9. Follow all OSHA guidelines, including but not limited to the appropriate safety and handling of hazardous materials.
  10. Perform technical skills within state practice guidelines regarding duties of credentialed and non credentialed veterinary technicians.
  11. Know vaccination guidelines within the hospital and administer vaccinations under the direction of the veterinarian.
  12. Perform routine procedures, i.e. heartworm testing, nail trims and anal gland expressions.
  13. Monitor hospitalized pets and perform treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
  14. Utilize hospital computer systems to document medical records and communicate with clients and teammates. Systems include the hospital practice management system, Vets First Choice and AllyDVM.
  15. Other duties as assigned.
  16. Fear Free certification or experience a plus!
  17. Exotics and bird experience are a plus!

Position Skills:
  • Professional client communication and education obtaining medical histories and symptoms
  • Laboratory procedures including but not limited to: hematology, cytology, urinalysis, microbiology, blood chemistry, and fecals
  • Diagnostic imaging and implementing safety protocols of fellow staff members
  • Nursing skills including: restraining patients, administering medications PO/IV/SUBQ/IM, applying and maintaining bandages, proficient IV catheter placement and venipuncture, surgery prep, anaesthesia monitoring
  • Proficient in dental prophylaxis


Position Require ments:
  • Veterinary Technician Certification or Licensure (CVT, RVT, LVT, or LVMT) or the ability to transfer credentials from state to state.
  • Associates degree in Veterinary Technology
