South Dakota State University (SDSU) is offering an exciting career as a Database/Systems Engineer. The University System Administration department is seeking well-organized, self-motivated team players to join their team. This position will support the Office of Information Technology (OIT) mission of providing technology, skills and services to the University. OIT is committed to creating an environment in which faculty and students will have opportunities to succeed and advance their research and creative activities.
Job Responsibilities: This position will provide primary technical support for our Database and Web systems, including planning, designing, installing, maintaining, programming, testing, and implementing.
In addition, this role will serve as a team member in the Systems Administration department, assisting with 2nd and 3rd tier end user support, and ensuring the integration and functioning of SDSU's IT systems.

However, this position may require the incumbent to work additional hours very early in the morning, evenings and/or weekends. These irregular work hours occur for many reasons such as required participation at meetings, work events and system maintenance/problem resolution. We also require participation in on-call rotation.

Job Responsibilities: This position will provide primary technical support for our Database and Web systems, including planning, designing, installing, maintaining, programming, testing, and implementing.
In addition, this role will serve as a team member in the Systems Administration department, assisting with 2nd and 3rd tier end user support, and ensuring the integration and functioning of SDSU's IT systems.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- Internet platforms (IIS, Tomcat, etc).
- SQL Database platforms (Microsoft SQL, Oracle, Azure, etc).
- SharePoint familiarity.
- Linux OS familiarity.
- Microsoft environment including Active Directory and Group policy.
- VMWare virtualization, server hardware (Cisco UCS, HPE and Dell), and storage technologies (NetApp).
Skill & Ability to:
- Design and architect a Web Services platform.
- Create and implement enhancements to existing Web Services design.
- Monitor and update web software for both application and security updates.
- Installing and maintaining web server hardware and software.
- Enhance the scalability and performance of existing database architecture.
- Perform database maintenance, migration, and upgrading of hardware and software.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft MS SQL administration
- Performing maintenance of the SharePoint platform and servers.
- Demonstrate problem solving ability across an integrated, multi-server environment.
- Work independently and research/resolve technical issues and solutions.
Preferred qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 3 years technical experience.
- Technical certifications in Microsoft or other industry certifications are highly desired.
Other Skills:
- Must be well-organized, self-motivated, a team player, able to work unsupervised and possess strong self-management skills.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Ability to:
- Communicate directly with peers, managers, and clients while leading development to a completed and successful solution.
- Analyze and maximize technical and operational performance characteristics based upon specified guidelines.
- Organize, manage, and work on multiple projects and priorities.
