Position Description
Kinder Morgan is the largest independent terminal operator in North America, providing a strong, reliable network of 144 terminals serving our customers' storage, distribution, blending and logistical needs. Our terminals store and handle renewable fuels, petroleum products, chemicals, vegetable oils and other products. We have a combined liquids storage capacity of approximately 151 million barrels and handle about 59 million tons of dry bulk materials annually.
Primary Purpose:
The Director, Business Development position is responsible for origination and execution of various commercial and business development opportunities for Kinder Morgan Terminals (KMT), the largest independent terminal operator in North America. Principal areas of focus include asset-level acquisitions & divestitures and outside-the-fence growth projects. This position provides the opportunity to interact with senior management, lead negotiations with external customers and counter-parties, and influence the strategic direction of the business unit.

Job Responsibilities will include:
- Identify and originate business development opportunities, including but not limited to asset-level acquisitions & divestitures, growth capital projects, and synergistic joint ventures
- Coordinate diligence and/or project evaluation efforts across various internal functions (engineering, commercial, operations, EH&S, etc.)
- Foster existing and generate new relationships with key market participants and prospective customers / counter-parties
- Draft non-binding indications of interest and/or indicative commercial terms in support of prospective business development opportunities
- Negotiate binding transaction documents in coordination with inside and outside legal resources
- Prepare and present materials, including economic and business justifications, to KM senior leadership as part of internal opportunity review process
- Perform market and competitor analysis.

Position Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree (required); studies in Engineering, Business Administration, Marketing, Accounting, or Finance, or related field of study.
Experience, Skills & Knowledge:
- Ten (10) years' experience in the energy industry, with specific experience in developing new business investment opportunities.
- Must be able to analyze all aspects of a Terminals business arrangement (technical, financial, contractual, legal, operations)
- Must have well developed oral and written communication, interpersonal, negotiation, and presentation skills
- Must have the ability to influence without authority by working with a wide variety of people, internally and externally, with tact, courtesy and professionalism while driving for positive results
- Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks are essential
- Must be a problem solver with the ability to find resolutions
- Must be self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision and/or direction
- Must be flexible and able to work effectively in a team environment and consistently maintain a professional and respectful demeanor/attitude with co-workers, clients, vendors, and regulatory agencies
- Willingness to travel, as needed
- Significant experience and business contacts with industry (refined/petroleum products, bulk commodities)
