Minimum Qualifications
Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus three years experience in repair, testing, maintenance or installation or electrical systems or equipment.
  • One additional year of relevant work experience may substitute for one year of the required education with a maximum substitution of four years.



Licenses or Certifications:
  • Appropriate licensing may be required.

Position Overview:
Performing tasks in the repair, maintenance, and installation of the AUS electrical systems and infrastructure, to include air field lighting, monitoring & controls.
Respond to electrical emergencies and customer service request; assist with identifying and resolving electrical issues and repairs; perform preventative and remedial maintenance activities. Assist with the review and oversight of electrical work that is performed by tenants, contractors, and consultants.

TRAVEL
If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

ASSESSMENT
A skills assessment will be required for this position.

ON- CALL / CALL BACK RESPONSIBILITIES
Position may require on-call or call-back responsibilities.

SHIFT INCENTIVE
Shift work includes shift differential incentives for evening and night shifts and weekends.

This position is categorized as essential personnel. Essential personnel are required to come to work during emergencies or bad weather at the airport if they are scheduled to work and, in some cases, when they are not scheduled.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience maintaining electrical systems within an large commercial or industrial facility.
  • Experience maintaining emergency generators, uninterrupted power supply ( UPS ) systems or electric vehicle charging stations.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex electrical systems and equipment.
  • Ability to travel to more than one work location.



Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  • Pull wire, conduit, cable, etc.
  • Connect power cables to equipment i.e. generators, alarm systems, lighting systems, etc.
  • Conduct on-the-job training. Assign duties and monitor task completion.
  • Use various electrician hand tools i.e. snips, screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, etc.
  • Operate soldering tools.
  • Read profiles and blueprints.
  • Measure, cut & bend wire & conduit using rulers & hand tools.
  • Install wire, conduit, coaxial cable, etc. Install conductors.
  • Splice electrical wiring i.e. strip insulation, twist wires together, solder, tape, apply terminal caps, etc.
  • Operate various power saws, i.e. radial arm, skill, etc.
  • Operate drills, buffers, grinders, sanders, etc.
  • Operate electronic testing equipment.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
    • Knowledge of basic electricity.
    • Knowledge of safety rules and procedures when working with energized electrical equipment.
    • Knowledge of building codes applicable to level of construction.
    • Knowledge of equipment tools and materials used in electrical maintenance and construction.
    • Skill in the use of hand tools common to the electrical trade.
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and schematics
