Minimum Qualifications
Electronics Technician I
Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus two (2) years experience in repair and maintenance of electronics such as communications, computer and peripheral or control and instrumentation equipment.
  • Twelve (12) semester hours of college credit in electronics, communications technology, engineering technology, computer science or related field may substitute for one year of the required experience with a maximum substitution of two (2) years.

Electronics Technician II
Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent plus three (3) years experience in repair and maintenance of electronics such as communications, computer and peripheral or control and instrumentation equipment.
  • Twelve (12) semester hours of college credit in Electronics, Communications Technology, Engineering Technology, Computer Science or related field may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience up to a maximum of two (2) years.

POSITION OVERVIEW :

This position performs tasks in the repair, maintenance, and installation of the AUS campus life safety and security systems, to include fire alarm and suppression, fire extinguishers, public address, CCTV , proximity card readers and security doors and hardware. Assist with the review and oversight of security and life safety work that is performed by tenants, contractors, and consultants. Provides assistance and input as the subject matter expert for all AUS construction projects. It installs, troubleshoots and repairs electronic equipment. This position researches and orders electronic components and maintain parts inventory. This position maintains, tests, troubleshoots, repairs, and calibrates various electronic systems and system components. It maintains technical files and associated inspection and discrepancy records for all campus life safety systems. It maintains records of repairs, calibrations and tests. This position tests electronic components and circuits to locate defects, using oscilloscope signal generators, ammeters and voltmeters.

TRAVEL :

If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

WORK HOURS :

Shift may change according to departmental needs. Work hours may include after hours, holidays, and weekend work

ON- CALL / CALL BACK RESPONSIBILITIES :

Position may require on-call or call back responsibilities.

SHIFT INCENTIVE :

Shift work includes shift differential incentive for evening and night shifts and weekends.

OVERTIME :

Overtime may be required with or without notice.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience in the repair, testing, programming, and troubleshooting of CCTV , Fire Alarm/Suppression systems, or Access Control.
  • Ability to travel to more than one work location.
