Description
Performs function of Head Cook in an elementary school kitchen offering the National School Lunch Program; Manages the preparation and service of the school meals at their assigned site; Able to complete all tasks performed by Elementary Food Server employees.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
- Leads Elementary Food Server in the provision of school meals for an assigned site.
- Develops work schedules and job assignments for site staff.
- Orders food, milk and supplies to meet the requirements of site meals within the accepted departmental timeline.
- Performs duties of Elementary Food Server (prepares entree, vegetables, salad and other food items; washes dishes, cleans equipment/work areas, sets up serving line, serves food and restocks).
- Maintains high standards of sanitation for production, service, cleanup, product storage and receiving in accordance with departmental requirements and state regulations.
- Implements the departmental account collection policies as needed within the school site.
- Manages cash and checks paid on student/staff accounts according the departmental and district cash handling policies and procedures.
- Prepares monthly food and supply inventory.
- Able to prepare and maintain accurate production records in accordance with federal regulations.
- Coordinates promotion efforts within site school under the direction of the Coordinator.
- Uses District e-mail and other electronic software necessary in the operation of a satellite site.
- Able to operate, teach and support the computer/cashier positions within site assignment.

ASSOCIATED FUNCTIONS:
- Understands the relationship between site meal participation, staffing and customer satisfaction.
- Contributes to the annual and probationary performance evaluation of all site staff with the Coordinator.
- Assesses need for performance improvement for all site staff and reports to the Coordinator with results.
- Interacts with State Sanitarian twice annually for state and federally mandated inspection process.
- Contribute to the positive site work environment through effective communication and problem solving.
- Attends all district trainings with site staff and periodic Head Cook trainings and meetings as needed.
- Recommends food service equipment needs and reports equipment failure and maintenance needs to Coordinator within acceptable timeframes.
- All other duties as assigned which relate to the functions of the job.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Manual dexterity and ability to work under pressure.
- Institutional food service or customer service experience
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations for product ordering, preparation planning and mandated federal production records
- Basic computer skills for point of service system, office software and email
- Demonstrated ability to lead and work well under pressure
- Capacity to develop positive professional interactions with student and staff customers, school nutrition staff, building administration and parents
- Ability to obtain School Nutrition Association Level One Certification and Serv Safe Certification within 12 months of employment
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) is strongly preferred.
