Overview:

We are seeking a Fleet Operations Supervisor who will focus on daily fleet operations and fleet sustainability initiatives. This position resides in the Fleet & Transportation Group in the Logistical Services Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

The Fleet Operations Supervisor will serve as the program manager for sustainability and vehicle electrification programs, as well as assist the fleet manager with planning and implementing the procurement, organizational assignment, maintenance, replacement, disposition, and reporting functions for the ORNL fleet of approximately 467 licensed vehicles (government owned and GSA leased) and 650 other pieces of motor equipment. They will ensure that all fleet actions are executed in accordance with DOE/Federal regulations, ORNL policies, and Standards-Based Management System (SBMS) procedures.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for management of the Fleet Operations staff.
  • Serve as the vehicle pooling program manager while making analytical, data-driven decisions on creating policies and strategies to meet near and long-term sustainability goals.
  • Lead and manage daily fleet operations, including preventative and corrective maintenance, recalls, and special requests.
  • Serve as the sustainability liaison for Fleet & Transportation and participate in National Laboratory Fleet Manager working groups to develop creative solutions to fleet challenges.
  • Provide peer support to the fleet manager with reporting, accident notification, acquisition, and dispositions.

Basic Qualifications:
  • HS diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of nine years of relevant experience


Preferred Qualifications:
  • A BS in business, logistics, management, or a related discipline with a minimum of 2-4 years of experience in fleet management and operations preferred.
  • Successful candidate will coordinate and communicate heavily with DOE staff and, therefore should have excellent interpersonal abilities, good oral and written skills, and the ability to positively interact with both operations and research staff
  • The ability to develop solutions to problems, as well as the ability to foster positive customer relations, are essential
  • Experience with the following systems is a plus: Vehicle Costing System (VCS), GSA Drive-thru, and Federal Automotive Statistical Tool (FAST)
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever-changing needs
