Pay

This position is a Temporary position at pay grade 103.

Attendance

Non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Overview

Interns will be given special assignments depending on their special interest and skills. The special assignment will expand their educational learning from the internship and they will have a mentor among the staff who will supervise the special assignment. Interns will gain real-life work experience that complements their education.

Responsibilities

• Utilize ESRI ArcGIS software to create, update, and maintain City GIS data based on organizational standards

• Read and interpret county documents such as utility plans, property plans, deeds, etc.

• Import and georeferenced GPS, drone, and other data into the City GIS database

• Utilize ESRI ArcGIS, Microsoft Office, and other software to create presentation quality maps and exhibits

• Analyze, correlate, and display data from a variety of sources (i.e. Excel Tables, databases, etc.)

• Print maps/exhibits on both normal scale and large scale printers/plotters

• Use a Global Position System (GPS) receiver to collect data such as hydrants, manholes, and parcel corners

• Assist City employees with drone field missions

• Research GIS data available with online government websites

• Provide support to departmental goals and objectives by coordinating special projects

• Work on special projects related to GIS analysis, advanced cartography, and Web GIS

• Solve automation tasks through programming/scripting

• Follow information technology best practices

• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Requires two (2) years of college and currently enrolled. Must have a successful completing with a minimum grade of 2.0 within the twelve (12) month period of date of application to the City's Student Intern Program

• No prior experience required

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.

• Selected applicants must be able to pass a background investigation and a pre-employment drug test.
