Summary

Serves as an IT Specialist within the Cyber Operations Team, NAS Security and Enterprise Operations (NASEO) Directorate.

Duties

Serves as a technical expert system network analyst under minimal direction of a management while independently performing multiple, varying and complex activities.

Represents FAA as a senior technical POC on projects, programs or other work activities.

Plays a lead role in drafting, reviewing, and editing reports or documents for final approval.

Presents briefings to obtain consensus/approval on policies.

Works directly with PMO from development through implementation of new/modified systems/services to ensure operational readiness prior to integration into the NAS.

Provides 24/7 operational support for NAS systems through monitoring and overseeing critical services.

Assists management to sets the team's strategic vision and performs both strategic and tactical planning.

Assists as required in the resolution of technical or programmatic issues which at times will be time sensitive.

Develops and maintains an understanding of NAS Enterprise Operations policies and processes especially with respect to information systems security and situational awareness.

Provides emergency technical assistance to return NAS programs and systems to full operational readiness. Monitors, analyzes, and troubleshoots telecommunication, infrastructure, NAS systems and OP-IP/Layer 7 network problems within a NAS enterprise operations center.

Responsible for systems/access administration and security on operational systems/services. Analyzes and tracks significant problems, monitors performance, and performs upgrades and/or fixes to hardware and software as required.

Monitors, troubleshoots, and coordinates service outages in a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) environment through the use of web services technologies.

Maintains updated knowledge of networking protocols, experience in routed and frame relay network environments, virtual hosted environments and experience with network management utilities.

Prepares informational and technical reports and presents briefings to include issues, mitigation strategies, and recommendations.

Remains current on job-specific knowledge and trends through training courses, workshops, seminars, and professional associations/publications.

Ensures cybersecurity requirements, polices, principles, and practices are applied to all phases of the system lifecycle. This includes development and review of documentation, and coordination with program managers, system owners, acquisition planners and other decision-makers and supporting analysts within assigned due dates.

Develops plans for IT security systems that anticipate, identify, evaluate, mitigate and minimize risks associates with IT systems vulnerabilities in specific offices or complex applications.

Actively participates with others to achieve overall goals by contributing ideas and efforts, voicing concerns as necessary, and volunteers to perform tasks that support team's objectives.

Work activities typically impact directly on the objectives of one or more major subdivisions or LOB/SO's and may impact on the objectives of the FAA. In some areas, the work may affect the safety and security of customers.

Work is reviewed rarely, typically though status reports and at project completion, to ensure technical compliance and alignment with the requirements of the project or other work activity.

To qualify for this position, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-I/ FG/GS-13. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Specialized experience is: Experience applying cybersecurity best practices and principles to recognize threats and take appropriate action to mitigate impact to the National Airspace System (NAS), this includes carrying out digital forensic investigations, with an understanding of FIPS/FISMA regulations to perform proper continuous monitoring of system security postures and risks.
