JOB DESCRIPTION:
This is a K-6 teaching position for the instruction of string Orchestra (grades 5-6) and General Music (grades K-4).PRIMARY PURPOSE: Teacher of Beginning String Music, grades 5 and 6SECONDARY PURPOSE: To provide instruction in general music techniques, Grades K through 4
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Teach beginning string orchestra classes in grades 5 and 6.
  2. Teach string orchestra classes in grade 6.
  3. Participate in required activities for the year, including District solo/ensemble contest, Regional and All-State tryouts, District "String Fling" and participation in UIL where appropriate.
  4. Conduct concert programs each in the Fall and Spring Semester.
  5. Provide regular opportunities for individual and small group instruction outside the school day (i.e. solo/ensemble preparation).
  6. Attend all activities in which assigned students participate.
  7. Interact with the junior high and high school orchestra staff as part of a continual program.
  8. Teach general music classes in grades K through 4.
  9. Participate in required activities for the year, including District and/or Feeder Elementary Music Festival.
  10. Ensure the organizational requirements of the Orchestra program are met.
  11. Ensure the requirements of the General Music program are met.
  12. Regular attendance.
  13. Maintain confidentiality.
  14. Other duties as assigned.

ASSIGNMENTS TO VIRTUAL INSTRUCTION:
  1. Seamlessly integrate District-approved online learning platforms and required software into the planning, delivery, and support of virtual instruction.
  2. Plan, prepare, implement, and evaluate lessons and activities during the standard work hours of the campus at which the teacher is assigned, as well as prolonged or irregular hours.
  3. Be able to communicate with students, parents, and campus and District personnel during the standard work hours of the campus at which the teacher is assigned, as well as prolonged or irregular hours.
  4. Adhere to all professional responsibilities and deadlines including professional communication and responsiveness.
  5. Be flexible, responsive, and positive with students, parents, and staff.
  6. Effectively translate CISD Best Practices into the virtual instructional setting.
  7. Regularly attend and apply District-approved professional development in the most up-to-date practices associated with virtual instruction.
  8. Accurately and timely obtain and report required student data, including attendance, grades, etc.
  9. Dress professionally as you would if you were offering instruction to students in a traditional, in-person setting.
  10. Teach and interact with students from a quiet space, free from distraction, where appropriate confidentiality rules can be followed.
  11. Create a virtual classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  12. Provide small group and tutoring opportunities for students who are experiencing difficulty in their learning.
  13. Support any extracurricular activities for which you are responsible according to District guidelines.
  14. Attend all required campus and District meetings.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Extensive experience in solo work as well as in small and large ensemble vocal performance situations
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and grade level assigned

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Proficiency on at least one string instrument, determined by campus need
  • Proficiency in all areas of vocal music- vocal styles, choral techniques, and sight reading
  • Orff-Kodaly training and/or certification
