Summary

LOCATION: This position is located in the Western Program Service Center, 1221 Nevin Ave. Richmond, CA.

TOUR OF DUTY: Full-time; Flextime and Alternate work schedules may be available.

Duties

The incumbent is responsible for assisting management in improving the timeliness and accuracy of work processed in the module, and for assuring that work assignments, including paperless processing, of Benefit Authorizers (BAs) and other module personnel are completed timely and in accordance with established procedures. Ensures uniform and proper application of laws, regulations, policies and procedures under titles II, XVI and XVIII of the Social Security Act pertaining to the full range of post adjudicative issues. Conducts studies to improve work processes and assist management. The employee serves as a resource person to Benefit Authorizers, Customer Service Representatives, Technical Support Assistants, contact representatives and check, claims and recovery examiners in the module.

Qualifications

Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-9 level, or equivalent, which is in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is experience which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to perform successfully the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.

Examples of specialized experience include: knowledge of Title II, Title XVI, and Title XVIII Social Security laws, regulations, and related manuals pertaining to post adjudicative , health insurance regulations, principles, policies and procedures; knowledge of SSA's queries and online/offline computer systems and their interactions; skill in leading, training, and/or providing technical advice to Benefit Authorizers and other assigned module personnel; skill in monitoring and controlling workloads and workflow; skill in oral and written communications; skill in applying analytical techniques for identifying and resolving processing problems; skill in negotiating and dealing with controversial issues; knowledge of the relationships among SSA programs and their interrelationships with state law and other agencies (i.e. Treasury Department, Medicare and Medicaid, etc.). To be creditable, this experience must have been at least equivalent to the GS-9 grade level.

Additional information

Position to be filled under the provisions of the SSA/AFGE Merit Promotion Plan. Additional selections may be made within 6 months of the date of the initial selection.

This is not a career ladder position; GS-10 is the full performance level.

This position is eligible for telework.

Travel expenses for temporary assignments will be paid as appropriate according to applicable travel rules and/or regulations.
