UW Facilities manages the University's buildings, infrastructure and land, with more than 1,100 employees in a variety of fields. The Asset Management group includes Capital & Space Management, Real Estate, Sustainability and other teams responsible for planning and workload management. Maintenance & Construction (M&C) is responsible for general maintenance, repair, and renovations of all University of Washington (UW) main campus facilities including building interiors, exteriors, and grounds, as well as logistics, moving, and disposal of surplus equipment and furniture.

We have an outstanding opportunity for a Non-CDL Driver / Mover (Truck Driver 2) to drive a 2-1/2 ton moving van and perform commercial moves in administrative, academic, and research facilities; move, handle, and transport equipment, furniture, materials, and supplies and load/unload trucks in manner to protect material using appropriate equipment, pads, etc. in support of the Moving & Surplus program.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Drive a 2-1/2 ton moving van

• Operate hydraulic lift gate

• Receive, load and unload equipment, furniture and materials

• Move furniture, equipment, materials, and supplies within room, building, and/or between buildings as described on job card.

• Advise clients and communicate on move preparations

• Pickup surplused materials from UW department locations

• Determine appropriate disposition of materials, notate disposition on item tag, receive and update status in database utilizing a mobile device

• Advise clients of inventory updates and changes, materials requiring special handling, and/or materials unable to pick up as requested

• Protect material being transported and moved using pads, carpet, cardboard, etc.

• Protect buildings, elevators, grounds, etc. as necessary in preparation for movement of materials

• Assess building spaces, including rooms, hallways, and/or elevators, and materials to be moved for damage prior to move and document any pre-existing damage

• Perform pre-trip vehicle inspections and minor service on assigned vehicle, (e.g. tire pressure, windshield fluid), and clean the interior and exterior of the vehicle as needed

• Report any equipment, furniture, material, building, and/or vehicle damage immediately to Program Support Supervisor

• Participate in organizational, division, unit, and work group programs: Balanced Scorecard, Lean Process Improvement, and other business efforts in order to improve workplace practices and processes to add value to the services provided

• Safely operate material handling equipment used in moving and transporting equipment, furniture, materials, and supplies

• Operate a cell phone and respond within 15 minutes

• Call office whenever a job will take longer than anticipated by the scheduler

• Notify lead and scheduler immediately if daily work assigned will not be completed, additional staffing is needed, or job needs to be rescheduled

• Provide completed job card to customer on site and request appropriate signature

• Submit completed job cards at end of each day

• Report any unfinished jobs directly to lead and scheduler

• Provide accurate documentation as requested

• Return equipment to appropriate storage location

• Assist in sustainment of moving equipment storage areas and equipment maintenance

• Notify supervisor of any equipment needing to be repaired and/or replaced

• Recommend equipment purchases to Supervisor

• Provide feedback to supervisor and lead regarding moving operations and customer feedback

• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements include:

• High school graduation or equivalent AND two years' experience as a Truck Driver or similar work AND possession of a valid motor vehicle driver's license

• AND possession of a commercial driver's license or ability to obtain if required in the position OR equivalent education/experience.

Additional Requirements include:

• Excellent driving record - copy of commercial driving abstract will be required of all final candidates

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

Conditions of Employment:

• Possession of a valid Washington State driver's license.

• Standard work schedule is: Monday - Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm.

• Substantial footwear is required and must be provided by the employee

• Work requires walking, climbing stairs, lifting, reaching (overhead/extension), grasping/handling, bending, kneeling, sitting, stooping (bend at waist), twisting (waist/neck) and standing for long periods of time.

• Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds unassisted and ability to lift/move 50 - 100+ pounds with assistance.

• Work is normally performed in an interior warehouse environment and an interior office environment. However, duties may include outdoor work with exposure to the elements and variable weather conditions.

• Must be able to work in a non-smoking environment.

• Regular and predictable attendance is required.
