The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD ("The HARRIS CENTER") is currently seeking a Nursing Supervisor to become a valued member of our team. The ideal candidate will implement a new and existing healthcare quality improvement initiatives and educational programs. Reviews clinical data for clinical quality complaints; conducts data collection, reporting and monitoring for key performance measurement activities. Also supports in the moment safety resolution (pre- incident reporting); follow-up on submitted safety incidents or good catches (post-incident reporting). Support leaders with gap resolution.

Your role in action:
  • Provide in services and coaching to clinical team members, as needed for new operating

procedures and workflow adherence
  • Seek opportunities to optimize clinical workflows, leveraging dashboards and metrics, as

needed and partner with other clinical quality leaders to develop or refine standard operating procedures
  • Initiates conflict resolution and refers these issues to the appropriate manager or director;
  • maintains a high degree of visibility within the nursing units and serves as a resource and role model for the nursing staff.
  • Meet with patients and/or families often-If a patient or family member expresses any concerns, direct the information to the appropriate person for prompt resolution of the issue. If able to address the concern, do so promptly and follow-up with the patient and/or family to ensure satisfaction.
  • Complete facility incident/accident reports as necessary and initiate investigations as requested.
  • Incident reports should be reviewed daily for follow-up on any concerns.
  • Conduct facility investigations in a professional manner with a keen attention to detail.
  • Investigations shall include interviewing staff, interviewing patients interviewing visitors, gathering statements (witnesses, staff, physicians, residents, etc.), reviewing video surveillance, gathering relevant data, preparing timelines, determining root cause, recreating events, drawing diagrams, creating charts, and detailed reporting of results with outcomes.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for the nursing department as assigned.
  • Understand and adhere to established facility policies. Interpret the department's policies and procedures to personnel, patients, visitors, and government agencies as required
  • Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations
  • Must be able to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such actions.
  • Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with patients, families, visitors, agency staff, and the general public.
  • Must have excellent follow-through.
  • Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality individualized care.
  • Ability to prepare and present educational material and or reports to various audiences.
  • Ability to formulate reports, disseminate information, interpret data, and coordinate with multiple departments.
  • Must have knowledge of computer systems, systems applications, and other office equipment.
  • Must have excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.

What qualifications you will need:

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or equivalent.

Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 years nursing experience and
  • Minimum of 1 year of mental health nursing experience preferred.
  • In addition, a minimum of 1 year of documented experience in a leadership/supervisory role in nursing preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Texas Board of Nurse Examiners Nurse Practice Act and nursing care standards of practice.
  • Applicable pharmacy rules and regulations including psychopharmacology.
  • And ability to apply crisis intervention techniques.
  • Standard Precautions and infection control procedures for dealing with sharp instruments, needles, blood, and body fluids.
  • Good body mechanics to avoid injury.
  • Basic principles of psychiatric/mental health nursing and/or developmental disabilities nursing.
  • Effective supervisory practices and communication techniques
  • Leadership and management principles.
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Effective data collection skill
  • Positive interpersonal skills.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and complete task independently. Initiative and self- direction.
  • Able to coordinate well with others and work effectively as a leader. Able to use all related medical equipment, machines, and monitors. Able to execute standard word processing on computer.
  • Strong time management skills. Clinically sound decision making. Leadership and management skills.
  • Supervise and guide assigned staff in completing of assigned task.
  • Ability to develop therapeutic relationships with chronically mentally ill patients and/or

developmentally disabled consumer
