PAC Tutor

The Experience Matters AmeriCorps Program seeks to improve academic performance in kids K-12 by supporting new or existing tutoring programs across the City of Phoenix. Participants will be serving in the Phoenix Afterschool Center (PAC) Program, an out-of-school time recreation program, where school-age youth are provided a variety of age appropriate, developmental activities that are fun, stimulating, and enriching. This opportunity will be focused specifically on tutoring, and improving the educational support of Arizona students. Work sites are located within public schools throughout the City of Phoenix boundaries. The PAC program runs through the public school schedule 2023-2024 and your service will be complete by aiding in facilitating math and reading tutoring activities for kids ages 6-13.

Member Duties : Experience Matters is working with the City of Phoenix to provide math and reading tutoring to their after-school kids, ages 6-13. PAC tutors will facilitate math and reading activities, while being supervised by PAC recreation staff. There are pre-set math activities, as well as a phonics-based reading program being implemented. The time commitment is 300 hours, serving 15-20 hours a week. RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE: Collaborating with staff, fellow AmeriCorps members, Lodestar Staff to improve the education of students in grades K-12. Educate hard to reach and most affected students, document your strategies, outcomes, and effectivity of methods for improving school performance. Facilitate tutoring for kids ages 6-13, both independently and collaboratively.
