Job Duties

Assigned to the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU), compile logs to assist in discovery. Logs would include search warrants, subpoenas, MOIs, DMAS records (provider Agreements, Audits, Billing data), tax documents (e.g., W-2s), other agency documents, bank/financial records, 3rd Party records (e.g., medical records stored by third parties for a provider), and privileged documents (by defendant in multiple defendant cases). Draft motions and assist with drafting indictments. Redact documents to be provided in discovery in compliance with applicable rules, prepare hardcopy and digital documents for discovery package, and deliver the discovery package in accordance with court rules or orders. Compile trial exhibits and notebooks. Assist with discovery process including compiling documents for document production, drafting response to interrogatories and admissions, and redacting documents. Assist attorneys in other phases of trial preparation. Planning and scheduling conferences with defendants and witnesses. Compile trial exhibits and notebooks. Assist with discovery process including compiling documents for document production, drafting response to interrogatories and admissions. Respond to telephone calls from law enforcement agencies, Department of Medical Assistance Services' personnel who are handling payment information on open criminal investigations. Maintain open criminal case files and Archives. Close attorney files by utilizing Access and retrieve closed cases when requested to do so. Maintain a log of all court deadlines and the progress of all active court cases. Perform other tasks as requested by the attorney including but not limited to drafting general correspondence and/or emails to defense attorneys, preparing spreadsheets. Use the federal ECF filing system to file motions, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

Competent working knowledge of legal terminology, and court procedures.
Position requires excellent written communication skills, as demonstrated in a writing sample (no page length requirement).
Successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional verbal communication skills, proficiency in time management, the ability to work independently and as a team member, and the ability to organize and analyze large quantities of written and verbal information.
Candidate must also demonstrate the ability to work well under pressure and adjust priorities without close supervision.
Litigation experience is required.
Position supports itself and requires basic word processing skills.
Experience with Excel and Microsoft Word required.

Additional Considerations

Bachelor's degree in related field and/or Legal Assistant Certificate is preferred; however, an equivalent combination of training and experience indicating possession of the required qualifications may substitute for educational criteria.
