Description

The Social Sciences Collegiate Division at the University of Chicago is now accepting applications for part-time Lecturers to teach Russia and Eurasia: Empires, Societies, Cultures during the 2024-25 academic year. Russia and Eurasia: Empires, Societies, Cultures is a three-quarter sequence in the undergraduate Civilization Studies program. Responsibilities include preparing and teaching seminar-style courses, holding regularly scheduled office hours, preparing and grading assignments, and attending staff meetings.

The terms and conditions of employment for this position are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the University.

Qualifications

The position requires a Ph.D. in Russian literature or history or another area relevant to the study of Russian history. Experience teaching at the university or four-year college level is preferred.

  • a teaching statement;
  • syllabi of courses previously taught and/or designed by the candidate or sample syllabi of proposed courses
  • Additional evidence of pedagogical accomplishment and promise: such as a teaching portfolio, recent course evaluations, third-party observations of the applicant’s teaching if available, or other relevant assessments. These may include letters of recommendation.
