MedSurg Specialty Oncology Unit at Central

The Surgical Specialty Unit at Abrazo Central Campus is a beautiful 27 bed medical/surgical/oncology unit that provides both medical oncology and post-operative care for a variety of patients with complex disease processes. The responsibilities include working hand-in-hand with the medical oncologist, the surgical oncology team, as well as our hospitalist group to ensure appropriate patient care. All patient rooms are private. The unit is designed to provide 24-hour care for surgical patients, as well as medical oncology patients. Our patients may require chemotherapy infusion at the bedside, and also in the OR during certain procedures. Chemotherapy certification provided by the Oncology Nursing Society will be required for all nurses providing chemotherapy (this certification may be acquired after 6months of patient care on the unit).


Patient Care Assistant

Provides individualized, culture-specific patient care by attending to the personal needs and comfort of patients, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Assists the professional or licensed nurse as delegated in tasks requiring less technical skills. Participates in shift and bedside report. Participates and supports regional, facility, department, and unit initiatives.

Special Skill: Excellent customer service skills; basic computer skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact positively and effectively with patients, visitors and health care team members. Knowledge of patient rights, aseptic/sterile technique and infection control best practices.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent GED.

- One year of experience in as a nursing assistant; or in lieu of experience,
- Current CNA certificate, or LNA license from the Arizona State Board of Nursing; or
- Completed block one/first year of nursing school; or
- Completion of formal PCA/T education program from an accredited institution.
