The California Compliance Specialist, based in our Fresno Distribution Center, will be responsible for ensuring that all People Success practices within the organization comply with state and federal laws and regulations. In this role, the specialist will provide guidance and support to management on HR compliance issues, including but not limited to, wage and hour laws, safety, anti-discrimination regulations, and employee relations. The specialist will also be responsible for developing and implementing HR compliance training programs, conducting audits and assessments, and staying up-to-date on changes to California labor laws. Overall, the Compliance Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the organization's compliance with California HR laws and regulations, while also promoting a positive and inclusive work environment, aligned with Ulta Beauty's Values.

What you'll do as a Compliance Specialist:
  • Partner with People Success (PS) and Legal for relevant laws and regulations that may impact PS, Fresno Distribution Center, or the broader network or enterprise.
  • Responsible for the development and oversight of CA compliance regulations.
  • Conduct internal PS audits on a regular basis to ensure compliance with relevant legislation regulations.
  • Identify, address, and implement solution to any potential issues involving noncompliance with CA state requirements
  • Partners with PS Business Partners to resolve compliance issues within the business units they support
  • Prepare effective communication reports of compliance issues for management.
  • Provide recommendations of process improvements on all aspects of PS compliance related procedures.
  • Serve as key contact for compliance related issues and external reporting.
  • Identifies situations which may pose Compliance risk and helps to guide management on developing appropriate policies and guidelines.
  • Ensure timely preparation and submission of compliance reports to external regulating agencies and internal customers.
  • Prepare and communicate any impending or imminent changes to legislation that could impact People Success.
  • Develop and deliver compliance related training programs and communications.
  • Identify and propose solutions to potential compliance gaps and risks.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records related to compliance.
  • Communicate changes to management and prepare contingency plans for implementation to minimize or eliminate risk and avoid disruption to operations.
THE ESSENTIALS FOR SUCCESS

  • Background in HR, Legal, Risk, Compliance, and/or Audit with 3 to 5 years' experience
  • Experience managing a processes or complex projects end to end.
  • Knowledge of California State and Federal labor laws and regulations, including but not limited to discrimination, harassment, retaliation, disability accommodation, wage and hour, leave of absence and background check.
  • Effective presentation experience
  • Experience and comfort with data and the ability to analyze collected data to identify opportunity and/or to "tell the story"
  • Experience leading and influencing without formal authority to gain buy in.
  • Previous industry experience or knowledge is highly desirable
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Previous experience with SAP SuccessFactors, SimpleVMS, ICIMS, Kronos is highly desirable.

Compliance Specialist works independently to take ownership, plan & align, and prioritize compliance initiatives, while still partnering intentionally to ensure that compliance practices are integrated into the overall business strategy. By doing so, they can ensure that compliance practices are effective, efficient, and aligned with the organization's goals and objectives.

The pay range for this position is $56,200.00 - $72,000.00 / Year with the opportunity for eligible associates to earn additional compensation pursuant to the Company's bonus plan. Exact pay will be based on factors including, but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, level, shift, geographic location, and business and organizational needs.
