SUMMARY: Under general supervision, perform installations and repairs of plumbing fixtures, pipes and various types of equipment using a variety of hand/power tools.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify and control hazardous working conditions and ensure all safety precautions have been taken before proceeding.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and related drawings; perform the appropriate installations and repair procedures to minimize structural weakness.
  • Cut and thread pipes; join pipes using various plumbing materials or soldering.
  • Test for leaks using pressure gauges and leak detectors.
  • Assemble and install plumbing fixtures and pipes of heating, water and drainage systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.
  • Assemble and install metal and non-metal valves, pipe fittings, pipes using hand and power tools.
  • Repair and maintain plumbing for leaky faucets, burst pipes and clogged drains.
  • Repair plumbing fixtures sinks, commodes, water heaters, garbage disposal units, and grease traps.
  • Maintain inventory of assigned tools, equipment, and vehicles as assigned daily, inform supervisor of any known problems immediately and provide documentation during inspection and/or inventory of tools, equipment, and vehicle as required.
  • Follow District safety guidelines, using good safety practices for operating hand and power tools and equipment as need for job completion. Wear safety equipment as assigned, at all times.
  • Maintain accurate records for labor, materials, work order completion, project orders, manufacturer's technical data sheets, material safety data sheets, and other Maintenance records.
  • Report observed maintenance problems that require action of other Maintenance departments.
  • Communicate effectively with principals, department heads, district staff, and all other auxiliary services personnel in a professional manner in all phases necessary to locate, correct, repair, and complete each job or project.
  • Employee may be required to respond to after hour/emergency callouts, be placed on an emergency call out rotation, and flex work hours to accommodate job completions.
  • Comply with District policies and procedures.
  • Perform all other duties and tasks as assigned.
  • All federally funded incumbents of this position must comply with time and effort reporting requirements through personnel activity reports or periodic certification, as appropriate.


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or USA equivalency
  • Texas Journeyman Plumbing License
  • Four (4) to six (6) years of experience in general plumbing installation and repairs
  • Ability to pass an asbestos physical and obtain certification within 90 days after hire date
  • Demonstrated knowledge of municipal plumbing codes
  • Demonstrated ability to perform responsibilities under general supervision
  • Demonstrated organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position
  • Demonstrated skills in accurate record keeping and computer data base management, including work orders and material procurement
  • Demonstrated ability to complete work orders accurately
  • Maintain a valid Texas Driver's License and driving record that meets District standards
  • Must pass a Dallas ISD random drug test
