Responsibilities of these positions will include performing multiple aspects of scientific research including experimental design and execution, assay optimization and validation, data collection and analysis, accurate experimental records, manuscript writing and scientific presentation. Specific tasks include in vivo or in vitro neurophysiological studies, in vivo Ca2+ imaging, behavioral tests, tissue collection, confocal imaging, immunohistochemical assays, and/or other tasks assigned by the PI or based on the candidates' expertise or interest.

Organize and assist in the implementation of project management. Read and develop a basic understanding of research project protocols. Maintain accurate records on every aspect of research projects. Proper disposal of biohazard waste. Perform inventory. Assist graduate students and other research personnel with their experiments.

Minimum Qualifications

Position Summary

Candidates in these positions will serve as postdoctoral scientists in the laboratory of Dr. Shaolin Liu in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology. This position will work with graduate students and other research personnel. The research lab conducts NIH-funded basic research pertaining to mechanisms underlying neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation in preclinical mouse models of Alzheimer's disease and related neurological disorders and traumatic brain injury. The lab's research currently focuses on mechanisms underlying neurophysiology and neuropathophysiology in mouse models.

Candidates in these positions will gain experience in multiple aspects of scientific research including experimental design and execution, assay optimization and validation, data collection, project management, manuscript writing and scientific presentation. The employees will perform in vivo or in vitro neurophysiological studies, in vivo calcium imaging, multiple behavioral test, animal care and colony maintenance, issue collection, immunohistological assays, confocal imaging, and/or other tasks based on the assignment by the PI or the candidates' interest or expertise.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position

Ph. D. in neuroscience or related disciplines. High self-motivation to learn new technologies and achieve their scientific and career goals. Work experience in electrophysiology, calcium imaging, or neuroanatomy, is preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

• Working knowledge and experience in electrophysiology, immunohistochemistry, and/or behavioral tests, or other research techniques related to projects in the lab.

• Ability and experience in performing analysis of experimental data.

• Ability to make presentations.

• Effective communication skills.

• Establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relations with lab personnel.
