Job Description

The Radiologic Technologist I at MUSC plays a crucial role in providing high-quality imaging services to patients under the direction of radiologists and other healthcare providers. This position requires technical proficiency, attention to detail, and a commitment to patient safety and comfort.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform radiographic examinations on patients using X-ray equipment according to physician orders and established protocols.
Position patients correctly and ensure proper radiation protection measures are in place during imaging procedures.
Operate radiographic equipment to obtain diagnostic images of designated anatomical areas with optimal clarity and detail.
Evaluate images for quality and completeness, ensuring that all necessary views are obtained for accurate interpretation.
Collaborate with radiologists and other healthcare professionals to assess patient imaging needs and ensure appropriate imaging protocols are followed.
Maintain accurate patient records and documentation of imaging procedures performed, including patient history, technical factors, and any adverse reactions.
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, safety standards, and infection control protocols in the radiology department.
Participate in quality assurance activities, including equipment maintenance, image quality assessment, and performance improvement initiatives.
Provide education and support to patients regarding imaging procedures, including preparation instructions and expectations during the examination.
Assist with patient positioning, immobilization, and other tasks to facilitate imaging procedures and ensure patient comfort and safety.
Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and move patients as needed, with assistance if necessary.
Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to manipulate radiographic equipment and accessories.
Stamina to stand for extended periods and move between patient rooms or imaging facilities.
Visual acuity and color vision necessary to assess image quality and detect any abnormalities.
Ability to communicate effectively with patients, family members, and healthcare team members.
Flexibility to work variable shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by departmental needs.
Education and Experience:

Associate degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field from an accredited program.
Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or eligibility for certification.
State licensure or registration as a Radiologic Technologist, as required by applicable regulations.
Previous experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in radiology, preferred but not required.
