The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), College of Medicine, Department of Surgery, is accepting applications for a highly motivated full-time Research Assistant Professor with experience in cancer and molecular biology join the team of an NIH-funded cancer research laboratory.

The laboratory is engaged in several broad avenues of investigation including the molecular epidemiology and translational genomics of colorectal cancer and elucidation of the genome-wide alterations and carcinogenic mechanisms associated with HPV-related malignancies.

The candidate should be self-motivated with a proven track record of productivity and strong interest in cancer cell and molecular biology. They should be able to work independently and demonstrate excellence in planning, executing, and analyzing experiments. The candidate will possess excellent organizational, prioritization, and interpersonal skills. They should have strong written and verbal communication skills.

This is a non-tenure track position. Responsibilities include:

  • Design and perform relevant experiments in cellular and molecular biology. Relevant laboratory techniques/experience include but are not limited to:

    - Cell/organoid culture, Transfection, Gene targeting/manipulation, Gene/protein expression analyses In vivo animal model applications, Cell function analysis, Gene methylation analysis, Familiarity with genome-wide analyses (e.g. methylomics, transcriptomics, sequencing etc.)
  • Involvement in data analysis and scientific presentations
  • Assist in the preparation of scientific abstracts, manuscripts, and grants
  • Assist in the generation of data for new projects and grant applications
  • Development of new ideas that promote current research.
  • Remain current and anticipate changes in technology and standards
  • Supervision and training of lab members, fellows, residents, and student


Required Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in science plus a minimum of three or more years of relevant experience in cancer cell and molecular biology
  • Has a record of peer-reviewed publications and other scholarly activity.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Committed to providing quality research
