Job Description

SCOPE OF POSITION
The Lead Therapist RRT is responsible and accountable for the care of the assigned patients and directs others to assure patient care which is based on patient needs, values, and choices. The Lead Therapist is expected to practice autonomously within the scope of professional standards, the rules and regulations established by the Tennessee Board of Respiratory Care and knowledge of the policies and procedures within Ballad Health. He/she demonstrates skill in developing and guiding collaborative collegial practice that delivers safe competent care based on meticulous application of the standards of respiratory care. He/she demonstrates sensitivity and understanding of the diverse cultural backgrounds of patients and caregivers. The position involves maintaining current knowledge of evidence based respiratory practice and the ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills in the implementation of all phases of respiratory care process. He/she actively participates in patient care quality and performance improvement through data collection, aggregation and analysis of relevant key indicators of quality (KIQ's). This commitment to quality results in the development and implementation of action plans to include the monitoring of the effectiveness of improvements (Hold the Gains) . Responsible for the respiratory care of patients assigned to him/her. Lead Therapist may be required to function with in staffing as much 95% of the time as needed.
The Lead Therapist assists with patient assignments, and coordinates respiratory care throughout the hospital. The Lead Therapist provides direction and support for respiratory staff. The Lead Therapist serves as role model for clinical and ethical practice on the zone. The Lead Therapist is responsible for assisting with education and implementation of patient care initiatives.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  1. Minimum requirements: Graduate of AMA approved program for Respiratory Care. Must have a minimum of two years of hospital-based clinical experience. Must have strong clinical background in adult, pediatric and neonatal Critical Care.
  2. Prefer: Critical Care and neonatal experience.
  3. Meets competency requirements for all patient areas.
  4. Excellent leadership skills as demonstrated by proven record of achievement.
    Valid and active licensure in appropriate state with blood gas endorsement
    Valid and active registration by NBRC
    CPR required
    ACLS, PALS, NRP required dependant upon area assigned
