Minimum Qualifications

Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications

A minimum of five (5) years relevant risk management and/or insurance, workers' compensation and claims management experience in higher education, institutional, or corporate environment. A professional certification(s) or license(s) in Risk Management, Workers' Compensation and/or in Insurance and Claims Management is desired; knowledge of University of Georgia policy and procedures.

Position Summary

The Georgia Department of Administrative Services (DOAS) provides insurance to the University of Georgia (UGA) and the University System of Georgia through a self-insured program. The UGA Insurance and Claims Management office serves at the principal point of contact between UGA and DOAS. UGA insures over $5 billion in assets around the state, including over 2,000 UGA-owned vehicles, 1,850 buildings and 43,000 acres of land as well as providing worker's compensation coverage for over 12,000 employees. The Risk Management Coordinator for worker's compensation serves in supporting this as the liaison with UGA departments and supervisors and the DOAS on worker's compensation matters.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • This job involves advanced expertise and knowledge in the administration of insurance coverage and claims processing
  • Experience that demonstrates knowledge of State of Georgia laws regulating insurance and liability
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills that include the ability to demonstrate good public/employee relationship skills
  • Capable of researching and collecting data for reporting purposes
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Applications, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and others

Enforcement and Violation Management:
  • Manage the processing of worker's compensation claims and filings, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with regulations.
  • Collaborate effectively with UGA departments and the Department of Administrative Services (DOAS) in handling worker's compensation matters.

Compliance Examination and Documentation:
  • Oversee and provide assistance with the online injury reporting system, including coordination with various UGA departments to identify and mitigate safety risks.
    • Contribute to the development and maintenance of a comprehensive return-to-work policy.
    • Provide training and consultation to UGA departments on worker's compensation processes, ensuring a clear understanding of procedures.
