The information security team is moving away from user service accounts and into role-based accounts

This is the way in which one system is allowed to "talk" to another

Right now, service accounts within IAM create an API key, which infosec does not like

Instead, they will move to a role-based access, in which the connection occurs dynamically at the time of day

Day to Day Responsibilities/project specifics: This role is within a learning and development team that is responsible for creating learning platforms from scratch when applicable vendor-based platforms are not available. The role is open due to the influx in need to move from user service accounts to role-based accounts. And integrating role based functionality within cloud-based yaml templates (file extension). The same holds true within Cold Build YAML templates. This will be done to ensure improved security between applications. Additionally, the team expects 2-3 Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) upgrades in 2024, so the role will involve researching, understanding and testing what is added and removed in each upgrade and how that relates to the applications and infrastructure currently utilized. Additional responsibilities include associating API gateways with WAF to ensure clear program communication. There will also be a full version upgrade of MySQL version 2 to version 3 - this will be about portability as old scripts may be deprecated. Ensuring compatibility and communication between applications and microservices is important. This will be the only DevOps engineer on the team, so this person needs to be an expert in the field and be comfortable being the only resource in this space.
