The University of Virginia is accepting applications for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Design Services team within Facilities Management. We are a multi-discipline team engaged in all facets of building engineering and provide design services for a wide variety of University renovations including classrooms, labs, healthcare facilities, athletic facilities, and student housing. Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of U.Va.'s buildings, infrastructure, and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities Include:
  • Develop and manage scope, schedule and budget for new projects in collaboration with Project Managers and stakeholders.
  • Prepare design documents for HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection using Revit for most projects.
  • Assign tasks to project team members and assist in resolving complex or challenging issues.
  • Provide engineering calculations and analysis of mechanical systems.
  • Perform QA/QC reviews to ensure completeness and accuracy of construction documents as well as compliance with building codes and the University's Facility Design Guidelines.
  • Perform construction administration services including submittal reviews, punchlist inspections, and project closeout.
  • Prepare feasibility studies to assess project viability and provide recommendations.
  • Adhere to and assist in developing department standards.
  • Develop and maintain project workbook using eBuilder.
  • Participate in meetings with project managers, consulting architects and engineers, University stakeholders, and others.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Work Experience: Seven years of mechanical design experience
  • Proficiency in drafting mechanical systems (Revit preferred)
  • Licensure: Professional Engineer required
Anticipated Compensation Range: $108,000 - $118,000, commensurate with experience; Sign-on bonus available!

Physical Demands:
Employee will be required to crawl, kneel, squat, bend and twist in order to perform their work. Employee must travel around job sites. Employee will work with materials of different weights and perform repetitive motions.
