Job Summary:
Performs a variety of responsibilities in designing and directing highly complex research projects and acts as a specialist in a research area in order to ensure that research efforts reflect credibly upon the medical and teaching status of the hospital.
This is a fully funded position at hire with anticipation of acquiring salary support and moving to Senior Scientist Level 2 within 5 years.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Designs and performs specialized, highly complex and unique experiments utilizing specialized knowledge and skills
  • Designs and develops project protocols by researching literature, determining research methodology and recruitment mechanisms in order to ensure high quality outcomes
  • Assists in preparing research grants proposals and over time begins to develop independent research grant proposals
  • Manages grant budget(s) for complete projects to ensure effective utilization of project resources. Negotiates with outside agencies for placement and/or funding of studies
  • Trains and assists research assistants, post-doctorate fellows or graduate students, while also increasing additional knowledge in areas of interest.
  • Directs and conducts the analysis and interpretation of project results for publication or presentations. Publishes results and may collaborate with other Principal Investigators or Senior Scientists
  • Works with Director of CAIRD and Laboratory Manager to determine study priorities and scheduling.
  • May also provide clinical coverage for the clinical trials program.


Qualifications:

  • Master's degree, Doctor of Pharmacy, PhD or MD with graduate /post-doctoral training in infectious diseases, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Epidemiology, or related field.
  • An exception may be made to the education requirement above for candidates that do not meet these criteria but have equivalent/exceptional experience in a related field that would be of benefit to the Center for Anti-Infective Research and Development.
  • Active CT State license in appropriate discipli ne.
