Working under the general supervision of a Principal Investigator and following established policies and procedures, conducts a variety of experiments with clearly established methodologies. Calculates, transcribes and analyzes data using basic statistics and graphing. Assists with general animal care and husbandry procedures.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Conduct behavioral pharmacology, cognitive, and/or neurochemical experiments. Experiments will be conducted daily and may include drug self-administration studies, drug discrimination studies, studies of schedule controlled-responding, touchscreen-based cognition biology, imaging, and/or neurochemical studies using in vivo micro dialysis.




  1. Prepare and administer drug treatments according to laboratory protocols.




  1. Transcribe and analyze data with computer-based statistics and graphics programs and prepare reports for supervisors.




  1. Discusses progress of studies regularly with supervisor.




  1. Maintains supplies inventory in accordance with departmental procedures.




  1. Assist with maintenance of animal care and husbandry and maintenance of an orderly work environment.
  2. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

BS or BA related to life sciences or medicine (e.g., pharmacology, neuroscience, biology, psychology).

New Graduate with relevant course or project work.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

  • Ability to work in a relatively independent manner
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills, detail oriented.
  • Ability to accurately record data and to analyze data using basic statistics.
  • Ability to perform a variety of routine tests and prioritize work.
  • Knowledge of computer programs, databases, etc.
  • Ability to identify potential problems and troubleshoot solutions
