Job Description:

Position Summary:

The Vascular Sonographer will manage daily clinical operations and conduct a broad range of technical procedures including peripheral vascular, venous reflux, and carotid ultrasound. This role requires entering exam data into the CPACs system, ensuring the completeness of the exam, and preparing the exam for interpretation. Adherence to National Patient Safety Goals is essential based on the patient contact level required for this role.

Reports to: Director of Cardiovascular Services

Responsibilities of the Position:
  • Conduct peripheral vascular, venous reflux, and carotid imaging following lab protocols and standard practices.
  • Assist the Physician during vein center procedures.
  • Perform required quality control checks and ensure reusable instruments are maintained and disinfected as required.
  • Manage the procurement, storage, and routing of supplies for room operations.
  • Prioritize patient lists based on the severity of illness, special procedures, special requests, and equipment availability; revise patient schedules as new procedures are requested and circumstances change.
  • Review patient information and orders at the time of the procedure; confirm the type of exam and appropriate diagnosis, and request clarification of order if necessary.
  • Download examination images and data into the PACs system; enter findings into the PACs system upon completion of the exam.
  • Mentor and evaluate ultrasound students as required.
  • Communicate technical and patient care-related information according to established processes and timelines.

Minimum Education:
  • High school graduate or GED equivalency is required.
  • Successful completion of a CAAHEP approved school of ultrasound or cardiovascular technology or equivalent experience.

Certifications/Licenses:
  • Current certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), or certification within one year of hire date.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification obtained through the American Heart Association (AHA) is required upon hire.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Minimum Work Experience:
  • Knowledge of diagnostic ultrasound principles, concepts, and methodology sufficient to perform high-quality diagnostic studies.
  • Ability to identify which images to include, looking for differences between healthy and pathological areas.
  • Ability to tailor the scope of an exam by adding additional images as dictated by pathology.
  • Knowledge of vascular cross-sectional anatomy and pathophysiology.
  • Knowledge of m-mode, Doppler, and color flow characteristics.
  • Ability to recognize vascular structures viewed from various angles.
  • Knowledge of ultrasound physics and instrumentation sufficient to identify and eliminate artifacts and optimize images.
  • Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot cardiovascular equipment.

Must-Haves:

Current certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), or certification within one year of hire date. Successful completion of a CAAHEP approved school of ultrasound or cardiovascular technology or equivalent experience. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification obtained through the American Heart Association (AHA) is required upon hire. High school graduate or GED equivalency is required. 3 years of professional cardiovascular sonography work experience.

Nice-To-Haves:

5+ years of professional cardiovascular sonography work experience. Ability to start the position within 45 days of accepting the job offer.
