To support its continued evolution, American Express is seeking an experienced risk professional to help ensure safe and sound banking & business operations by creating embedded partnerships focused on reducing technology and operational risk.

The VP will lead a team of risk advisors, each assigned to a member of the Technology Leadership Team and corresponding Business Unit.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced and proactive leader responsible for technology risk, operational risk and information security control enforcement. The ability to deliver measurable outcomes and results in a fast-paced, large-scale environment while building lasting partnerships and credibility is essential.

The ideal candidate will have the following characteristics:

  • Experience working with large-bank Regulators and in complex global environment.
  • Broad understanding of information security disciplines with emphasis on vulnerability management, data protection, infrastructure security, application security, identity and access, incident management, risk management, and data analytics.
  • Broad understanding of operational risk management principles.
  • Calm and decisive under pressure. Natural operational leadership in stressful situations.
  • Initiative and energy to go beyond minimum requirements of effort and activity; a bias for action and for getting things done.
  • Experience in developing high performing talent.
  • Proven ability in extending and maintaining strong relationships in a complex multi-national corporation. Ability to translate technical cyber security concepts to non-technical business leaders.
  • Strong problem solver with the ability to use analytical methods to affect change.
  • Effective organizational skills (including attention to detail) along with the ability to collaborate and influence in a matrix environment.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish strong partnerships with key stakeholders across technology organizational towers and lines of business to provide consultation on IT/IS and operational risk.
  • Provide tailored risk reporting on an ongoing basis to each technology group with tactical consultation on risk identification, measurement, and treatment.
  • Partner closely with Information Technology and Information Security standard owners and control owners on risk remediation prioritization efforts to influence risk reduction across the organization.
  • Act as a bi-directional advocate representing business unit and technology leadership interests in control owner and policy discussions.
  • Elevate operational risk management practices through the risk advisory function, leading to improved documentation, enhanced controls, timely issue management, and overall improved risk culture.
  • Drive other Technology Risk related activities which arise based on the needs of the Technology Risk mission.

Qualifications

Salary Range: $210,000.00 to $300,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
