Position Overview

A leader within the structured product group responsible for managing the public and private ABS portfolio, including trade execution, to meet the investment guidelines of each investment portfolio while also considering liquidity needs, diversification, regulatory and capital considerations, and exploring ways to accommodate growth of the invested assets by identifying new investment opportunities within the ABS markets.

Manage, train and supervise junior analysts or traders. Continuously monitor markets and sector fundamentals, develop, and maintain relationships with brokers and take appropriate actions required to achieve the company's goals, with a strong track record in credit performance, minimizing principal losses while achieving desired returns.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor markets: Keep abreast of sector fundamentals and market developments and price moves with a specialization in Esoteric ABS (aircraft, container, whole business, triple net-lease, etc), and be a central point of communication: continuously communicating with sales and trading staff at Wall Street firms, timely reading of messaging (e.g. via Bloomberg's, email, chat) as well as informative research and other communications from Wall Street brokers and analysts; plus continuously communicating with our in house credit research staff and global portfolio management teams to achieve overall team knowledge that will inform decisions about appropriate trades to make.
  • Analyze structured securities relative to RGA investment policies and portfolio goals based on the direction of the global portfolio management team and deep knowledge of the structured assets and execute trades to achieve the desired investment income while managing the risk of principal loss. Facilitate regular reporting of the relative performance, performance attribution, disposition, and trade activities of their respective portfolios.
  • Manage and direct the efforts of analysts. Integrate bottom-up credit and relative value opinions of analysts into a top-down view of the specified asset types within the structured securities portfolio and integrating their analysis and opinions into the trading process and structured product portfolio strategy via ABS sector and security selection.
  • Monitor spreads of all sectors and sub-sectors of the market within ABS, with a primary focus on Esoteric sectors, to assess changing markets and fundamentals and inform the recommendation and execution of repositioning trades.
  • Manage or mentor junior analysts and traders within the structured bond group, coaching them through the complexities of the asset classes within structured securities while educating them on the alignment with RGA's overall goals.
  • Review and challenge prices of securities in the different portfolios documenting the reasons for challenges according to accounting standards to support the quality of the data informing investment decisions.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Wall Street dealers, analysts, and strategists to achieve desired access to research and investment opportunities that support the investment portfolio goals.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:
• Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Finance or related field or equivalent related work experience
• CFA Charter Holder
• 10+ years investment-related experience with a minimum of 3 years experience in fixed income trading
• Experience with Bloomberg analytics
Preferred:
• Experience in managing a portfolio of Aircraft ABS and Aircraft EETCs securities
• Master's Degree: MBA or MS
• Experience with Blackrock Solutions, Trepp, Intex, and investment accounting
• 8+ years experience within insurance/reinsurance industry

• Expert understanding of fixed income markets including corporate bonds, ABS, MBS, CMBS, high yield, emerging markets, commercial loans, private placements, and alternative investments
• Highly advanced skills in portfolio analysis and fixed income analytics (i.e. sector weightings, portfolio duration, performance attribution, convexity, and term structure of interest rates)
• Highly advanced knowledge of investment management systems, including trade order management, fixed income analytics and compliance
• Expert skills in portfolio and security-level analysis system tools
• Exceptional ability to make timely and effective decisions and produce results through strategic planning and the implementation and evaluation of programs and policies
• Exceptional ability to liaise with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional, and technical disciplines
• Exceptional skills in managing multiple tasks, projects and/or sub-teams simultaneously, including the ability to handle changing priorities

The general pay range for this position is $207k - $225k base per year. Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location.
