Summary

CHS is a global leader in the Agriculture and Energy industry with a large transportation business. We are looking to fill our VP of Transportation Operations role overseeing carrier selection for all modes of transportation, freight tendering, claims, freight audit, and freight payment. In addition, this role will have the responsibility for procuring same day freight capacity and identifying strategies for capacity during peak and non-peak seasons.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction and leadership to a transportation operations team. Guide, mentor and cultivate a high-performing team.
  • Ensure efficient operations and collaboration to manage execution and payment for approximately one million shipments per year.
  • Oversee the end-to-end execution of shipments, ensuring timely delivery to customers.
  • Coordinate order processing and push orders through the supply chain.
  • Tender freight to both private fleet and third-party carriers, evaluating performance and cost-effectiveness.
  • Take responsibility for order and shipment delivery, meeting customer expectations.
  • Audit and process freight bills accurately and ensure timely payment to carriers.
  • Manage transportation-related claims promptly, addressing damages, delays, or lost shipments.
  • Ensure optimum delivery reliability to the customer by developing efficient and effective production flow processes and identifying process improvement and cost reduction strategies that are in line with business objectives.
  • Select carriers based on performance metrics and tender all loads.
  • Must be a strong leader of change with ability to influence at all levels and inspire confidence among all team members including senior leaders.
  • Deliver operational excellence and optimization with the right cost management and pricing strategy to maximize the benefits for internal and external CHS stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management or logistics or minimum of 10 years of experience in transportation operations or logistics leadership roles
  • Strong leadership skills, especially in managing large, diverse teams.
  • Strong analytical background
  • Continuous improvement mindset with proven experience and change leadership
  • Working in a matrix organization.

Additional Qualifications

  • 10 years of experience
  • Significant knowledge and experience in agricultural commodity trading, risk management, logistics and execution with a strong understanding of how this relates to truck, rail, and barge transportation.

Physical Requirements

CHS offers a competitive total rewards package. Compensation includes base wage and, depending upon position, may include other earnings such as bonus, incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications.
