Job Summary: The Web Developer I writes and maintains standard front-end and back-end code that supports websites and web applications. Applies specialized knowledge of web code standards and frameworks to produce complex, dynamic websites and applications that meet standards required by University and governmental policy. Works under close supervision.
Additional Department Summary: The Web Developer I works closely with senior developers to build and maintain websites using WordPress and Omeka development technologies, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and other web development frameworks and tools. Reports to the Technical Development Librarian. Works collaboratively within the development team.

The position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and some web development experience.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Some experience with WordPress or Omeka platforms including theme and plugin development
Skills and Knowledge: In depth knowledge of PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Familiarity with Git or other version control systems. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong attention to detail. Ability to multitask. Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Ability to learn new skills and technologies as needed for projects.
Preferred Qualifications: Understanding of web accessibility (WCAG 2) and SEO best practices. Knowledge of web performance optimization techniques. Familiarity with CSS preprocessors such as SASS or LESS. Understanding of JavaScript frameworks such as React or Vue.js. Experience with website migrations to the WordPress and / or Omeka platforms. Familiarity with agile development methodologies. Experience with the Linux command line and system administration experience. Development experience leveraging MySQL or similar database.
