Job Duties

Norfolk State University's Ethelyn R. Strong School of Social Work invites applicants for a 12-month, office manager position. The organizational objective of this position is to serve as Office Manager and the administrative assistant to the Dean as well as provide sufficient support and professional assistance to the Program Directors to ensure that official business of the School is directed to and channeled through the administrative offices in the School and the University.

The Ethelyn R. Strong School of Social Work offers a full range of Social Work Education programs, including Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited Bachelor and Master degree programs in Social work, and the Ph.D. Program in Social Work. The School serves a diverse population of approximately 600 students, and emphasizes the values of social justice, social responsibility, and respect for human rights, dignity and diversity. The School is especially committed to addressing the strengths and challenges of an ethnically and culturally diverse client population, in an evolving global community.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Excellent oral and written communication skills;
2. Knowledge of office procedures and practices;
3. Proficient with the database management, word processing, excel spreadsheets, common software;
4. Efficient and knowledgeable with accounting and student information systems of the University;
5. Skilled in public relations;
6. Ability to operate office equipment, computers, and multimedia systems;
7. Ability to compose and type formal correspondence and dictation;
8. Excellent organizational skills;
9. Ability to oversee administrative staff and work study students;
10. Prior administrative experience working in an academic dean's office.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Two to four years of college preferred and two to five years of experience in administrative office management preferred.
