CONTRACT PERIOD: 9 month / 187 days OR 10 month / 207 days

SALARY SCHEDULE: Based on Board Approved Salary Matrix

JOB DESCRIPTION:

To assist schools in achieving reading goals. To support and encourage student achievement in reading.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Alabama teaching certificate in the grade level, subject area(s) assigned.
  • At least three (3) years of successful classroom teaching experience.
  • Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with awide variety of people and groups, for the purpose of maximizing student achievement.
  • Ability to develop and implement curriculum and programming specific to the needs of students at the designated grade level(s) and in the designated content area(s)/subject(s).
  • Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member.
  • Ability to use technology to communicate, plan and provide instruction, to facilitate student learning, manage data, and produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of child development and especially of characteristics of students in the age group assigned.
  • Knowledge of the prescribed curriculum.
  • Knowledge of current educational research.
  • Ability to use technology for communication, instruction, clerical tasks, data analysis, record keeping, research, and reporting related to performance responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of learning styles and skill in using varied teaching methods to address student learning styles.
  • Skill in oral and written communication with students, parents, and others.
  • Ability to plan and implement activities for maximum effectiveness.
  • Ability to assess levels of student achievement effectively, analyze test results and prescribe actions for improvement.
  • Ability to work effectively with peers, administrators, parents, and the public.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Demonstrates an elevated level of skill in implementing scientifically based programs of reading instruction.
  • Provides instruction in reading throughout the school day as directed by the school administration.
  • Adheres consistently to an approved schedule.
  • Collaboratively plans with teachers for reading and literacy instruction. Collaboratively plans with principal, School Improvement Specialists, and Title I Director for school improvement reading.
  • Monitors and analyzes assessment data to improve reading instruction and student achievement.
  • Facilitates positive and supportive learning strategies for parents to improve student achievement in reading.
  • Enforces school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy.
  • Administers standardized tests in accordance with directions provided, including proctoring and secure handling of materials.
  • Uses appropriate material, technology, and resources to help meet the learning needs of all students.
  • Fosters student responsibility, appropriate social behavior, integrity, valuing of cultural diversity, and respect for self and others by role modeling and learning activities.
  • Communicates effectively, orally and in writing, with other professionals, students, parents, and community.
  • Engages in continuing improvement of professional knowledge and skills.
  • Acts in a professional and ethical manner and always adheres to professional standards.
  • Serves on committees, task forces, planning teams, and advisory groups to improve student achievement.
  • Supervises and/or assists with extracurricular and co-curricular activities as assigned.
  • Demonstrates attention to punctuality, attendance, records, and reports; reports absences, takes leave, and prepares for substitutes according to Board policies and school procedures.
  • Maintains confidentiality of student and other professional information.
  • Exercises appropriate professional judgment.
  • Models and maintains high ethical standards.

  • Keeps principal informed of potential problems or unusual events.
