TITLE: Guidance Counselor (High School)
CONTRACT: 220 Days
JOB GOAL: To help students overcome problems that impede learning and to assist them in making educational, occupational, and life plans that hold promises for their personal fulfillment as mature and responsible men and women.

1. Assists with the class schedules for students and teachers.
2. Coordinates an annual “College Day” and plans visitations to schools, colleges, and industry for interested students.
3. Coordinates Awards Day Ceremony.
4. Coordinates American Education Week.
5. Coordinates Advisor/Advisee Programs.
6. Assists in the placement of E.I.A. remediation students.
7. Arranges for homebound tutors and summer school work.
8. Maintains student records and protects their confidentiality.
9. Provides students' information to colleges and potential employers according to the Board's policy on student records.
10. Makes recommendations to colleges for admissions and scholarships.
11. Obtains and disseminates occupational information to student and to classes studying occupations.
12. Interprets the guidance program to the community.
13. Assists with 8th grade student and parent orientation.
14. Provides supervision for guidance noncertified personnel.
15. Manages guidance budget.
16. Coordinates printing and distribution of report cards.
17. Identifies Junior Marshalls and Honor Graduates.
18. Maintains records and completes occupational completer reports, placement reports, and CIP CODE report.
19. Maintains records and completes reports as required, i.e., for Tech-prep (PACE).
20. Registers new students and orients them to school procedures and the school's varied opportunities for learning.
21. Aids students in course and subject selection.
22. Works to discover and develop special abilities of students.
23. Works to resolve students' educational disabilities.
24. Helps students evaluate career interests and choices.
25. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1. Minimum three years of successful teaching experience.
2. Valid certificate as a guidance counselor.
3. Master's degree or its equivalent, representing intensive coursework in the principles and practices of counseling; the organization and administration of guidance services; and the psychology of learning.
4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
