Special Education File Technician. Lane 2, $16.96 per hour, 5.75 hours per day, 5 days per week, 177 days per year. Must be at least 18 years of age to apply.



Placement on the salary schedule will be reviewed by a supervisor and finalized through the Human Resources and Payroll Departments. Candidates already employed with Nebo School District, applying for a new position with a lane increase, may decrease in overall steps in the new position if offered, accepted, and not in the same job category.

Purpose Statement

Special Education File Technician

The job of Special Education File Technician is done for the purpose/s of assisting the resource teachers in maintaining confidential files, providing accommodations, and providing instructional, behavioral, and assessment support for students with disabilities.

This job reports to Teacher - Special Education

Experience: Job related experience is desired.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Certificates and Licenses: Valid Driver's License & Evidence of Insurability

Clearances: Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance

Essential Functions
  • Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives.
  • Administers tests, homework assignments, make-up wok, etc. for the purpose of supporting teachers in the classroom.
  • Communicates with teachers, parents and/or appropriate community agency personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and/or implementing IEP objectives.
  • Implements under the supervision of assigned teacher, instructional programs and lesson plans (e.g. reading, math, language, comprehension, writing, computer, etc.) for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
  • Maintains documents, files and records for the purpose of providing up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance.
  • Monitors individuals and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. rest rooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, cafeteria, parking lots, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Participates in meetings and in-service presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
  • Promotes good study habits for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes.
  • Provides under the supervision of assigned teacher, instruction to students in a variety of individual and group activities (e.g. reading, spelling, self esteem, behavioral skills, daily living skills, etc.) for the purpose of implementing goals for remediation of student deficiencies and ensuring student success.
  • Responds to emergency situations (e.g. injured student, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Responds to inquiries for the purpose of solving problems, providing information and/or referral.
  • Schedules a variety of activities (e.g. assessments, meetings, IEP's, etc.) for the purpose of supporting delivery of department services.


Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices and procedures; using pertinent software applications.
  • KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: age appropriate activities/behaviors; assessment instruments and techniques; concepts of grammar, spelling and punctuation; health standards; knowledge of community resources; school safety and security practices; stages of child development.
  • ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; dealing with frequent interruptions; maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines and schedules; working as part of a team.


Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; providing information and/or advising others; operating within a defined budget. Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 40% sitting, 20% walking, 40% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
