QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:

• Bachelor's degree from accredited university, Masters preferred

• Valid Texas teaching certificate

• Certified Academic Language Therapist or Certified Academic Language Practitioner

• Completed Take Flight and/or Rite Flight training (preferred)

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Knowledge of the subjects assigned

• Knowledge of Section 504

• Proficient with required dyslexia assessments and interpretation of test data

• General knowledge of curriculum and instruction

• Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior

• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

• Technology Integration to support dyslexia therapy

EXPERIENCE:
Experienced dyslexia therapist utilizing the Texas Scottish-Rite Take Flight or Rite Flight programs.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Strategies

• Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.

• Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.

• Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administration regulation.

• Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.

• Consult, collaborate and guide RTI, ARD and /or 504 committees with identification, assessment, placement and service considerations for dyslexia population.

• Participate in and contribute to department activities/requirements as needed.

• Follow CISD Dyslexia department operating guidelines.

• Demonstrate competency in processes, applications, and sequencing of concepts in the subject area assigned.

• Plans and instructs lessons following the district-adopted teaching models.

• Plan and supervise assignments of teacher assistant(s) and volunteer(s).

• Applies principles of effective teaching practices.

• Employ timely and effective evaluation techniques.

• Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.

Student Growth and Development

• Provide guidance to students relative to their educational, personal, and social growth, and development

• Identify and provide assistance for students with special needs.

• Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.

• Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.

• Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.

• Be a positive role model for students, and support the mission of the campus and of the school district.

Classroom Management and Organization

• Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.

• Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the student handbook.

• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

• Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

Communication

• Establish and maintain open lines of communication and positive working relations by conducting conferences with students, teachers, administrators, and parents.

• Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.

• Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

• Set an example of and encourage socially acceptable behavior in the areas of appearance, correct usage of speech, and manners.

• Display emotional maturity in contacts with students, parents, staff, and community.

• Possess physical competency necessary for performance of assignments.

Supervise assigned teacher assistant(s).

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
