Job Description:

General Statement of Duties:

The Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education (ACCE) is responsible for the planning, coordinating, facilitating, administering and monitoring of activities associated with PTA clinical education on behalf of MWCC in coordination with the academic and clinical faculty. The ACCE serves as a liaison between the physical therapist assistant program and the clinical education sites. The ACCE, in cooperation with the academic faculty, establishes clinical education site and facility standards, selects and evaluates clinical education sites and facilitates ongoing development of and communication with clinical education sites and clinical faculty.

Responsibilities:
  • Communicate between MWCC and Affiliated Clinical Sites, Center Coordinators of Clinical Education (CCCE), Clinical Instructors (CI) and students regarding policies/procedures, compliance with clinical site requirements, contractual agreement negotiations, dissemination of program and student information, coordination of student assignments, clinical faculty development and maintenance and distribution of clinical education manual.
  • Communicate with all parties before, during and after clinical learning experiences. Complete clinical education site evaluation.
  • Conduct Clinical Education Program Planning, Implementation and Assessment with input from academic faculty, advisory board and other vested parties.
  • Monitor and document the academic performance of students; determine final grade for all clinical education courses across the curriculum and determine readiness for clinical placement.
  • Develop remedial experiences as necessary with input from appropriate faculty, program director, dean/assistant dean and others.
  • Participate in PTA advisory board meetings, regional, state and national clinical education forums and related activities to enhance development.
  • Manage administrative responsibilities including database of all clinical sites, current information on sites and faculty, and status of negotiated clinical agreement.
  • Report on status of performance of student and on clinical site/faculty in clinical education.
  • Develop Clinical Sites, as applicable, insuring that MWCC maintain an adequate number and diversity of Clinical education sites.
  • Provide Clinical Faculty Development to insure highest quality of clinical instructors for MWCC PTA students.


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited PTA or PT program;
  • Current Massachusetts license as a PT or PTA;
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in a related field;
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as clinical instructor or CCCE;
  • Active in clinical practice, especially as applicable to clinical education;
  • Active in professional activities at local, state, and/or national levels.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Able to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers;
  • Ability to travel to local clinical facilities;
  • Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving and counseling skills;
  • Current knowledge and skill in use of information and computer technology (e.g. word processing, email, database) or proven ability to learn these skills.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Member of the APTA;
  • Earned status as an APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor.
