The Department of Multidisciplinary Engineering (MTDE), College of Engineering at Texas A&M University, invites applications for one (1) Academic Professional Track (non-tenure) or Visiting (Non-Tenure) faculty position (full or part-time) at the lecturer, senior lecturer, visiting lecturer, visiting senior lecturer, instructional assistant professor, instructional associate professor, instructional professor, visiting instructional assistant professor, visiting instructional associate professor, visiting instructional professor, associate professor of practice, professor of practice, visiting associate professor of practice or visiting professor of practice ranks with a 9 month academic appointment. This is a MTDE position and will focus on the development of a blended engineering and medicine curriculum working with the Engineering Medicine (EnMed) program and the School of Engineering Medicine (SEM). It is anticipated this position will start November of 2024.

The successful applicant will be expected to collaborate with SEM engineering, basic science, and clinical faculty in the development of engineering perspectives of medical cases; advise and mentor EnMed (MD/MEng) students in pursuit of their innovation portfolios; participate in all aspects of the EnMed department's innovation activities (maker space, entrepreneurship); and will assist in teaching engineering and, to a lesser extent, medical courses.

EnMed is a collaborative venture among Texas A&M College of Medicine (COM), Texas A&M College of Engineering (COE), SEM, and Houston Methodist Hospital (HMH). EnMed graduates receive a MD degree and a Master of Engineering in four years. This first-in-the-nation program blends experiential learning in engineering innovation with medical school training to create a new kind of physician, a "physicianeer" with the goal of transforming health care. EnMed is located in Houston's Texas Medical Center (TMC).

Qualifications

For appointments at the Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Visiting Lecturer, or Visiting Senior Lecturer level, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: a) have a terminal degree in engineering (have a Doctoral level degree), or b) have an extraordinary record of accomplishment in an applied setting. There may be additional requirements depending on the specific faculty title.

For appointments at the Instructional Assistant Professor, Instructional Associate Professor, Instructional Professor, Visiting Instructional Assistant Professor, Visiting Instructional Associate Professor, or Visiting Instructional Professor level, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: a) have a terminal degree in engineering (have a Doctoral level degree), or b) have an extraordinary record of accomplishment in an applied setting. There may be additional requirements depending on the specific faculty title.

For appointments at Associate Professor of the Practice, Professor of the Practice, Visiting Associate Professor of the Practice or Visiting Professor of the Practice levels, applicants must have, at the minimum, a master's level degree appropriate for the field in which the faculty member will teach and significant teaching experience at the college/school level in the field or in a related field, or have an extraordinary record of accomplishment in an applied setting. There may be additional requirements depending on the specific faculty title.
