The Department of Pediatrics, University at Buffalo (UB), Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and Oishei Children's Hospital is recruiting for an Academic Scholar - Clinical Geneticist. We are looking for a candidate who has experience both in the area of general genetics/dysmorphology and metabolism and is eager to help grow and support our regional genetics program.
The Division of Genetics runs an active outpatient clinic with a diverse patient population. Our providers also support the pediatric inpatient units, Maternal Fetal Medicine Center, Great Lakes Cancer Care, and several multidisciplinary clinics at Oishei Children's Hospital ( OCH ). The division will be the primary training site for a newly approved genetic counseling master's program at the medical school. We are also part of the Regional New York State Newborn Screening Center ( NBS ) in Buffalo, New York. The Division includes one BC MD and six genetic counselors.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Clinical duties will include inpatient consultation for children admitted to Oishei Children's Hospital and outpatient care in our pediatric multispecialty clinic in collaboration with our genetic counselors. The successful candidate will have experience in the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of children with genetic conditions and have a proven record of excellence in patient care in a family-centered environment. The successful applicant will be an academic physician who exhibits a balanced commitment to clinical care, education and/or bench research. This position will offer potential research opportunities with protected time.
Oishei Children's Hospital and the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences are located on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus ( BNMC ), a consortium of the region's premier health care, life sciences research and medical education institutes, all located on 120 acres in downtown Buffalo. This promotes strong interactions with the Clinical and Translational Research Center, the institute for Healthcare Informatics and the New York State Center of Excellence for Bioinformatics and Life Sciences including the Buffalo Institute for Genomics and Data Analytics, Center for Computational Research and Hunter James Kelly Research Institute. This proximity provides outstanding research opportunities in metabolism, genetics, genomics and bioinformatics.
