Job Description:
The Student Success Advisor will serve as a member of the student success team housed in an academic college. The success team is also comprised of a Career Development Service's liaison and the college's director of advising. The Success Advisor will coordinate student engagement and success programs in the college to include the Early Alert Response System and other programs for first-year students. The position is also responsible for developing retention initiatives that will assist all students in achieving academic success. The team will also coordinate workshops for students, faculty, staff and the community regarding these initiatives. The advisor is expected to teach at least one section of the University 110 Academic Success course each spring semester. The individual is responsible for representing the College at campus functions such as PREVIEW, as well as coordinating and managing programs which require inter-departmental collaboration.

* Provide guidance to students related to course registration, assist with registration troubleshooting including overrides when appropriate.

* Understand and effectively communicate major curricula for assigned majors; including specific major and course requirements, major declaration or program admissions requirements, sequencing of courses for maximizing GPA.

* Provide individualized outreach to students in academic difficulty.

* Accurately record advising log notes in advising management system and DegreeWorks software immediately after advising sessions.

* Advise for parallel planning to facilitate retention of students who are not making progress toward degree completion. Discuss career goals and alternative majors, refer to appropriate advisor for alternate major or to Center for Major Exploration in accordance with policies set by Advising Director.

* Answer questions from current and prospective students and parents via phone, email, or walk-ins

* Presenting or co-presenting at University Open Houses, college fairs, majors' fairs, Admitted Students Day, Family weekend, Scholars Day, and other events is expected. Requires up to 7 Saturdays per year.

* Serve on committees as assigned.

* Adhere to all policies and procedures as specified by Director of Advising and the University.

Minimum Qualifications:

* A Master's degree in business, higher education, or counseling from a regionally, or nationally accredited higher education institution.
* Knowledge of counseling and student development theory.
* General working knowledge of academic vocabulary.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, critical thinking skills, inter-personal skills.
* Problem solving skills are a must.
Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience in counseling and advising students in academic difficulty.
* Experience with working at-risk populations.
* Experience with placement test scores, transfer equivalencies, internship opportunities, and study abroad initiatives.
